Ten Tips for Being More Truthful Barbara A. Lewis

Ten Tips for Being More Truthful
Barbara A. Lewis
The Ten Tips

#1.   Make a commitment to tell the truth.
#2.   Tell someone about your commitment.

Reflection: By making a commitment to tell the truth is a big deal for most people. Other people have a little bit of a different take on that, But for now lets just talk about the positive which is commitment to telling the truth. By committing your self to tell the truth is a big way of building the positive and a positive character. An example of making a commitment to tell the truth is when you find a missing phone and you take it but then the person who lost it comes asking if you found it by comminging you are telling the truth you are truth full and tell them you found the phone.  Telling someone about your commitment shows them that you are a trust worthy person and that you have great character on doing the right choices in life. Therefore making you a stronger and better person.

Quote: "Courage, sacrifice, determination, commitment, toughness, heart, talent, guts. That's what little girls are made of."

Bethany Hamilton

" The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor. Vince Lombardi

#3.     Think before you give a dishonest answer.
Reflection: What it means to think before you give a dishonest answer is to always tell the truth and to not be hesitant about it. An example of to think before you give a dishonest answer means like Pinocchio. He cant tell a dishonest answer because his noses grows and that shows he is being dishonest.  This Image on the right hand side explains the meaning of dishonesty. And dishonesty is not the right thing to do in any case no matter what the problem.
Quote:  "The greatest truth is honesty, and the greatest falsehood is dishonesty."
 Abu Bakr
"I don't want to lie. I dislike dishonesty. And I work in Hollywood, a town and a business that relies on a lot of falsehoods with people hiding behind different facades. I don't want to be a part of that."
 David Arquette
#4.   Be careful of when and how you use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony.
Reflection:  What this tip for being more truthful means is to be cautious to what you say in front of people because you can really hurt a persons feelings by the way you use exaggeration, sarcasm, and irony. An example of   be careful of when and how you use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony in a positive and a  negative matter is when you are talking to friends or family. when you are with friends you use lots of sarcasm and exaggeration and through that you have the thought in the bake of your head saying is it to much but you proceed. But when your with family you change.

Quote: Exaggeration:"All cartoon characters and fables must be exaggeration, caricatures. It is the very nature of fantasy and fable."
Walt Disney

Sarcasm: "I am suggesting that as we go through life, we 'accentuate the positive.' I am asking that we look a little deeper for the good, that we still our voices of insult and sarcasm, that we more generously compliment and endorse virtue and effort."
 Gordon B. Hinckley
Irony:"My book has a very simple surface, but there are layers of irony and paradox all the way through it."
 Mark Haddon
#5.  Be careful not to twist the truth or leave out part of it.

Reflection: What this means to me a is not to ever lave any important details in telling the truth. It also means to tell the whole truth with out twisting and leaving out any IMPORTANT details. If you do twist or manage to leave any important information out just to make yourself look better karma is going to return the favor twice as bad. An example of twisting the truth and or leaving out important details is lest say you are with your friends and one of your friends ask if you can take care of the phone and you dropped it because someone bumped into you because you were goofing off and the phone cracked. When your friend returns they are mad and you tell them that a person just came and dropped it. You don't tell then the truth that you it was also your fault they will find out eventually and karma is going to be worse.

Quote: "Forget the past. Accept your mistakes. Dare to speak the truth. Be honest to your commitment, and now life is ready to take off to the horizon you desire."
 Anil Sinha

#6     Don't indulge in little white lies.
Reflection: What it means by not indulge in little white lies is to not cave in to telling a little lie because eventually that lie can either expand or it can just lead in to a bigger problem. For a basic understanding the word indulge mean for  oneself to enjoy the pleasure of. But the whole phrase put together means you still tell a little lie but  it is meant to mislead people in another direction so they wont think its you in any case. An example of not to indulge in little white lies is when you are at home and you have younger siblings and lets say that you broke a plate and your parents asked who did it and you say that you little sibling had the plate last so they wont suspect its you. With that little white lie it leaded you to someone else getting in trouble.

Quote: "When we tell little white lies, we become progressively color-blind. It is better to remain silent than to mislead."
 James E. Faust
"White lies always introduce others of a darker complexion."
William S. Paley
# 7.   Watch out for silent lies.
lying quote
Reflection: What it means to watch out for silent lies is If you are to remain silent you are exercising your constitutional right. However, if a person knows something, they should feel some kind of responsibility to share their knowledge with someone else. And basicly means to just if you know something and you just hide it an lie in a silent matter. "He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions."
THOMAS JEFFERSON,

Quote:  "You may tell the greatest lies and wear a brilliant disguise, but you can't escape the eyes of the one who sees right through you."
TOM ROBBINS

#8.    When you catch yourself lying, throw your mouth into reverse.

Reflection: What this means to me is when you are telling a lie you stop yourself and you do the right thing and you tell the truth. When you tell lies for a period of time you wont even realize you are telling a lie because of how much you do it. Most people think its necessary to tell a lie for the best because it might just cause the other person less of a reaction. When you are telling a lie but you realize that you are put a stop to it because it can just cause a greater consequence.  An example of telling a lie then putting your mouth in reverse is when you are talking to your mom and she asked how was the Math exam and you in your head are planing to lie and say you passed with an A but you didn't pass and you start to tell her a lie but you realize it is wrong and you tell the truth instead.

Quotes:  “I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on I can't believe you.”
 Friedrich Nietzsche
“The reason I talk to myself is because I’m the only one whose answers I accept.”

―George Carlin
#9.     Talk to yourself.
Reflection: What it means to talk to yourself is when you are thinking to com up with a lie and you kinda have to stop and think saying why do want to lie when you know telling the truth is way better and safer. An example of talking to your self is when you are deciding when to lie but you think about it and you take the high road and you don't give into it because you let your conscience take a positive turn. talking to yourself to increase the performance and function of your brain. It is crazy not to talk to yourself because you would miss out on the benefits that come with self-talks.

Quote: “Self-talk reflects your innermost feelings.”
― Asa Don Brown
#10   Treat yourself when you tell the truth.
