The 10 Keys to Personal Power

The 10 Keys to Personal Power

Brian Tracy

Key 1: Clarity

"Have vision. Determine what you want to be, do or have in life.  Have a sense of direction and know where you’re going.  If you do not have clear specific goals in life, you are doomed forever to work for others who do."

Reflection: Clarity is The one things that people need in there life to determine what they want to be in life other than just having a basic lifer choices when they know they can have way more in life other than just having a blurry vision on what they want ti do. Have clarity on what is the best thing for you to do in your life. CLARITY!!!!!

Key 2: Competence
"If you commit to excellence, opportunities will always come your way. The harder you work, the better you get."
Reflection: Competence is the ability to do something successfully or efficiently. This word has lots of meaning to it just by saying it. The ability to do something is being successful at what you do.

Key 3: Concentration

"Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself “Is this the best use of my time?” before you start anything."
Reflection: Concentration is the act of concentrating; the state of being concentrated. This means that we as people we really need to focus on the positive and also the worthiness of our positive choices to know we are concentrated.
Quotes:    " What does it take to be a champion? Desire, dedication, determination, concentration and the will to win."
Patty Berg

Key 4: Common Sense
  1. Train your mind
  2. think things through
  3. listen to your intuition
  4. learn from setbacks

Reflection; Common sense is good sense and sound judgment in practical matters. What this definition means is having good judgment on the right and wrong things in life. Some words that are similar to the meaning of common sense is good sense, sense, native wit, sensibleness, judgment, levelheadedness, prudence, discernment, canniness, astuteness, wisdom, insight, perception, practicality, capability, resourcefulness, gumption, savvy, and smarts. These are just a few words that are very alike when it comes to common sense. An example of common sense is if your in a situation that you need to have the common sense to do it right and efficiently. Most people have the incapability to do that so they will struggle in most situations.

Key 5: Creativity

"Except the fact that every human being is a genius.  The hallmark of creativity is asking questions.  The people who are most creative ask the most questions."
Reflection;

Key 6: Consideration
"The quality of your relationships with other people will determine your success in life."
"Develop the people skills you need to become a better communicator.  Take courses in listening, speaking, etc."

"If you were to learn one new word a day, within 5 years, you’ll be the best educated person in history."
Reflection: Consideration means careful thought, typically over a period of time. A basic meaning of this means just having a positive and caring thought about a person or a situation.
Quote: "Every human being is entitled to courtesy and consideration. Constructive criticism is not only to be expected but sought."
Margaret Chase Smith

Key 7: Consistency

"Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work."

Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work.  Be the person that people can depend upon.  That if you say you’ll do something you do it.."
Reflection';  A basic meaning of the word consistency is conformity in the application of something, typically that which is necessary for the sake of logic, accuracy, or fairness. An example of being consistent is when you are consistent and refusing not to give up on the people or ideas you care about the most like family, friends, work, and even yourself.

Quote'; “Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can't practice any other virtue consistently.”
― Maya Angelou

Key 8: Commitment
"No success is possible without commitment.  The ability to commitment to yourself whole heartily is the basis of achieving all success."

"Become totally absorbed in your work.  Be totally committed."
Reflection: The word commitment can mean lots of positive and interesting things. A couple of words that mean the same thing but in a more positive way than it already sounds is  dedication, devotion, allegiance, loyalty,  and faithfulness. All of these words have a positive sound to them. But they alll mean one thing and it id to have devotion and willingness in you work no matter what it is. An example of being commited is when you devote your self in to studing for an exam and you dont let the little things distrct you. That is devotion to you work other wise known as commitment.

Quote:
"Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." Vince Lombardi
Key 9: Courage
" Fear of Failure is the single greatest reason for failure in life."
Reflection: The word courage means to me is to have the ability to face something really scary or something you are afraid of and just having the ability to come to face it. The word courage has a very important meaning to it to me because i have never had the ability to have courage not once in my life because i was so afraid of all the bad possibilities. Courage to me is strength in the face of pain or grief. An example of courage is say you are a person that has a crush on someone and you do not have the courage to tell them how you feel. But to get through life what you need is the courage even if its a little or a whole lot at least you have the the ability to know you have courage. If i did not have courage i would not be the person i am today.

Quote: " Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition."
 Steve Jobs

Key 10: Confidence

"You only get confidence by doing things over and over again ."
Reflection; Confidence is not something that can be learned. It alsohas other meaning to it like confidence is a state of mind and positive thinking, practice, training, knowledge and talking to other people are all useful ways to help improve or boost your confidence levels. An example of having or growing into confidence is when you are really shy. When you are really shy to your self you have no type of confidence because you have that huge part of you that always holds you back from doing the courages thing. Every shy person needs courage and Lots of confidence. With out these two things the habit of being shy will grow. I should know because i was like that i would let my shyness get the best of me untill i gaind confidence and after i gaind confidence i became a whole diffriend and positive person now. This truly effected me in the most positive way because i f i would have remaind shy and not have taken the risk i would have been ther same person ever since i was little.
Quote: "All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure."
 Mark Twain

Reflection:
Write a final all-encompassing reflection about the 10 Keys to Personal Power. How can they benefit you?  Which key are you applying now, and what difference is it making in your life? How will you incorporate the other keys into your Life Planning plans?
The 10 keys to Personal Power have really benefited me to be more proactive, Confidence, having more courage, commitment,Consistency, Consideration,Creativity, Clarity,Common Sense, and Competence. All of the ten keys has really helped now and even in the past. In the past i learned these since middle school. My 8th grade leadership teacher taught the class about these types of things. The keys that i am applying to my life is to be confident and to have courage because i do not have a tone of confidence or courage what so ever. So far it is starting to make a difference little by little every day.  The way that i plan on having incorporate the other keys into your Life Planning goals/ plans is to find things i can do that incorporate tghe rest of the ten keys to personal power.

The Seven Habits The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The Seven Habits
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Habit 1: Be Proactive
"Habit 1 is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says, "I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."
Reflection:  When i first red this first habit i was 12 years old just starting middle school and when i read this habit i was in my leader ship class. I was very shy and non proactive and i didn't want to be shy  for the rest of my middle and high school days. And when my leadership teacher was teaching us about  The Seven Habits i would gain lots of confident and i did. These 7 ways helped me a lot in the past years and still has.
Quote: "Real freedom is creative, proactive, and will take me into new territories. I am not free if my freedom is predicated on reacting to my past."
Kenny Loggins

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind

"Control your own destiny or someone else will." (Jack Welch)
Reflection: Beginning with the end of mine means to me to have a clear understanding of you as a person. What it also means is It means to know where you're going so that you better understand where you are now so that the steps you take are setting you to a really bright future. An example may be When you are in a sports team or when you join a club.
Quote:"Before you start anything, learn how to finish it."

Habit 3; Put first things first

"Organize and execute around priorities."
Reflection:  For this habit what my first thought about it was that you put the most important things first in your life. An example of this habit could be or even might be like if your at home and you are doing homework and your sister or brother asked you for help on there homework so you do the most important thing first is help your siblings first because you know that you can finish your homework later on.
Quote: "Effective leadership is putting first things first. Effective management is discipline, carrying it out."
Stephen Covey
Habit 4: Think win-win
"Think win-win or no deal."
Reflection:  My perspective on habit number 4 is to think win win you have to and need to have a positive attitude to try and accomplish what you want to do. An example of a win win situation is like in a sport people that play any type of sport they know that they want the win out of the game and for them to do that they got to think in a positive win win thought and mind set. Most people do not  like to think of a win win sratigie like that they just want to just go for the kill like most people say or do.

Quote: " Music reality shows provide a platform to people who have talent and gives them visibility and exposure. It is a win-win situation for participants."
Shreya Ghoshal

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand then to be Understood
"Diagnose before you prescribe."
Reflection: This habit to me means that to hear people out first then to understand so they can see you understand so then they can understand you.  An example of seek first to understand then to be understood is lest say you meet a new friend and you need to understand there life so they cam understand yours.
Quote: " Teenagers: the most misunderstood people on earth treated like children & expected to act like adults."

Habit 6:  Synergize
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts (1+1=3)
Reflection: What the word Synergize means is is the habit of creative cooperation. I had to think about what this word meant because i have never heard it before.  It's a process, and through that process, people bring all their personal experience and expertise to the table.
Quote: "Synergy is better than my way or your way. It's our way."
Stephen Covey

Habit 7:  Sharpen the Saw
Four Dimensions of Self-Renewal: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Emotional
Reflection: This habit has lots of more meaning to itself because like  Steve Covey said " Covey uses the common analogy of a woodcutter who is sawing for several days straight and is becoming less and less productive. The process of cutting dulls the blade. So the solution is to periodically sharpen the saw." To put this a little bit easier it means you start off really sharp and good but over the time you start to dull. Its saying do not do something the same way all the time try something new and different ,
Quote: "
Reflection: Write an overall final reflection in this post regarding the "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."  Include your deepest thoughts and feelings. Write what you commit to do to apply the seven habits.

What the  7 Habits of Highly Effective People has taught me over the past weeks is to be more  Be Proactive. to consider to  Sharpen the Saw,  Synergize,Seek First to Understand then to be Understood,  Think win-win,  Put first things first , and to  Begin with the end in mind. All of these habits have really put my mind in perspective on the good and positive things in life that can occur.

Three Fundamental Techniques

Three Fundamental Techniques
in Handling People

Technique 1: Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
“If you want to gather honey, don’t kick over the beehive.
Refection: What i believe that i understand of this first technique is that you never have to criticize people or condemn because it something you do not want people to think of you as. Like in this quote “If you want to gather honey, don’t kick over the beehive.” it an explanation to met that if you want something you do not have to be brutal about it you  just need to know to do it.

Technique 2: Give honest and sincere appreciation
"The big secret in dealing with people"

Reflection: In my own words i think that this technique means that you have to be honest and sincere to a person to show that you appreciate them.  An example of this second technique is if you are in a committed and serious relationship and your boy or girlfriend says that they love you then a way to show that you are honest and sincerely appreciate them the best way to say that is to say that you love them back.
Quotes: "Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom."
Thomas Jefferson

Technique 3: Arouse in the other person an eager want.

"He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot, walks a lonely way."

Reflection: What this quote or technique means to me is
how to proceed with the same common sense. For this technique i have to admit i was kind of confused because i did not under stand what it was trying to say or tell. I was looking for what this technique meant and i found a web site that gave me a clearing on what it was. It said this"Dale Carnegie knew that the only way on earth to influence other people is to talk about what they want and show them how to get it.
This is a good thing to remember regardless of whether you are dealing with children or calves or chimpanzees. In his book, “How to Develop Self Confidence & Influence People by Public Speaking,” Carnegie offers this interesting—and humorous—example:" it goes on with examples as well The website is called
http://www.dalecarnegiewayphilly.com/

Quote: " Arouse in the other person an eager want. He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot walks a lonely way."

Dale Carnegie

Final Reflection:

Write an overall final reflection in this post regarding the "The Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People".  Include your deepest thoughts and feelings. Write how you will apply the Three Fundamental Techniques".
Reflection:My thoughts on the Three Fundamental Techniques in handling people is That through this 3 rules if i may say it has taught me that there is a better approx on how to handle new or maintain good connection between new and old people/ friends. "The Three Fundamental Techniques in Handling People" has taught me a little it more on ways to be a better person in general. This subject is actually given me new ideas on a better concept for this fundamental techniques.

School break Days

Winter Break
For the three week of winter break what I did was most teenagers do when we have break is sleep in all day every day. I did not do anything new or fun over the break. The couple of things that I did for my first week of break I helped my mom plan a baby shower for her future God-daughter and it was a surprise baby shower. That day went well for all my family. And after the weekend past I was just playing video games with my brother and my two God brothers. After the week past that Saturday my Tia had planned a birthday party for her 2 youngest kids and it was fun and not so fun because it was raining  but the good part is that me and my 2 cousins and my friend were playing in the rain. So that was fun. Then for Christmas I and my whole family made lots of food that honestly lasted through New Year’s. My family was a bit crazy during New Year’s Eve because they are just naturally like that when it comes to that day. When it was the countdown to midnight my Tia has this tradition that we get coups of water and we stand in the street and count down and when its new year’s we tossed the water in a cross into the street for good luck for 2016. After that lots of my family members got sick.  After that it was just a regular week of vacation playing video games, texting, doing homework, etc.
And this week for school im not expecting much fun just like my vacation.

Six Ways to Make People Like You

Six Ways to Make People Like You

Rule 1: Become genuinely interested in other people.
"Do this and you will be welcome anywhere."
"Ask questions to other people, questions that they would enjoy answering."
Reflection:
What this rule means to me is that if you want to meet new people just don't start talking about your self. I mean people that don't even now you could care less. An example of becoming interested in other people is if your at school and there is a new kid and you see that they don't have  any friends so you do the nice thing and go over and talk to them not about your self but about them and what they like to do for fun, what is there favorite type of music, etc. That is what rule one is based on getting to know other people.

Quote: "You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you." – Dale Carnegie

Rule 2: Smile
1) "Actions speak louder than words, and a smile says, "I like you. You make me happy. I am glad to see you."
2) "You don't feel like smiling? Then force yourself to smile."

3) "It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign (witness or indication) of friends."
Reflection:
A smile show a lot about the first impression of a person. A smile can and will show a lot about someone. For example When i meet new people i will always smile a warm smile to show them i am not a stuck up person. Like one time i was at my cousins quincenera Practice and my partner Saul was a really serious guy. so when we got to practice the second day i gave him a smile to show him that i was not a serious person and after that we started to act more and more like friends better that we used to before. What i am basically trying to explain is one some can really change a person.
Quote:"Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts."
Paramahansa Yogananda
Rule 3: Remember names
1) "A man's name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language."
2) "If you don't remember names, you are headed for trouble."
Reflection:
What this reflection means to me is something positive to have. The habit of remembering peoples names. This will and can be a positive habit to have because it will show that you can take a interest in other people and also it will show a lot about your character and how well you pay attention to other people. An example of a bad habit of not remembering someones name is when your at a job interview and they tell you their name and at the end of the job interview you forget there name and that shows lots about your character and memorization skills.A good example of memorizing a persons name is if you meet someone and you take interest in the person and you actually like them with confessed.
Quote:
"Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names."
John F. Kennedy
How to Remember Names
A Couple of ways to remember Names are
1. Meet and repeat
2. Spell it out
3. Associate
4. Make connections
5. Choose to care
6.Speak Up
7.Writing it Down
8.Study the person's face or other distinctive features

Rule 4: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
" If you aspire to be a good conversationalist, be an attentive listener."

"Remember that the man you are talking to is a hundred times more interested in himself and his wants and his problems than he is in you and your problems.
Reflection:
What this to me means is that to listen to the others and not to let people be intimidated by you. Thus also means to me is You should also help people get the courage to about themselves. An example of this Six Ways to make People like you is lets say you meet someone new and you go up to them and talk to them and when they talk to you should be a listener and not just the person that just stands there like a piece of wood and not fully listen. When you are a actually good listener you ask question and are genuinely interested in the other person And because of this little act you gave someone the courage to talk about themselves.
Quote:
"Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you'd have preferred to talk." --Doug Larson
Five Active listing Tips:

  1. Stay Focused
  2. Really listen
  3. Allow for Periods of Silence
  4. Repeat the other persons words
  5. Understand the emotions Behind the words
Rule 5: Talk in terms of the other man's interest.
"The royal road to a man's heart is to talk to him about the things he treasures most."
Reflection:
This Rule has a very big meaning to it because it means that don't only talk about you interests also let the other person talk about there interest. For example if you are talking to a person only about you, you, you that can make you sound stuck up and that you only care about your own interests. If you really think about if the other person really cares about your {ex} shoes then would you want to hear about them talking about hair clips? So instead of doing all that ask them and make conversation with them about them and a little about your self.

Quote:"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest."
Benjamin Franklin

Rule 6: Make the other person feel important--and do it sincerely.
"The desire to be important is the deepest urge in human nature." (John Dewey)"Helping people feel important and appreciated works magic."
Reflection:
This makes me think a lot about  if i really had or even have anything in this experience of making other people feel special or they making me feel special. I only know one person that made me feel special and i made them feel special. He has been a hug part in my life because he makes me feel special all of the six's ways if what i think mostly describe my best friend because he is a person that he dose not  only care about himself but he wants to be that person that wants to make you feel wanted. This six ways is about making other people feel important and not doing it in a sarcastic way of making them feel important.

Quote: " Without wearing any mask we are conscious of, we have a special face for each friend."
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Ways To make People Feel Important:

  1. Make a note of the important events in her life and ask her how the events went.
  2. Praise them in front of other people.
  3. When you first call on the phone, ask if it’s a good time to talk
  4. Ask them for advice or for there opinion.
  5. Ask them to teach you something.
  6. Celebrate there successes
  7. Pay Attention
  8. Tell them you believe they can achieve their dream—and why
  9.  If they don’t have a clear dream, recognize and acknowledge their skills and talents.
  10. Give Generously
  11. Invite Them
  12. Do the little caring things for them
  13. Ask them About there Day
  14. Make there day feel special
  15. Make them happy
  16. Take interest in there Hobbies
  17. Ask them to tell stories about there travels or there childhood
  18. Be interested and focus when they are talking
  19. Ask fro there input and opinion/ information on things

Reflection: Write an overall final reflection in this post regarding the "Six  Ways to Make People Like You".  Include your deepest thoughts and feelings. Write what you commit to do to apply the Six Rules.
The Things that i commit doing to show that i include the six ways in my daily life scheduled is to put my self out there like a person and ask people questions about themselves. Most people only want to talk about themselves 24/7 but i honestly do not like to talk about myself just out of the blue. I like to learn new things daily about other people and things. A couple of my ideas on the Six's ways to make people like you is it was informative and  helpful because now i know how to approach someone better that how i normally approach people.
